Project Spotlight: Speyside Cooperage
At Opus Integration, we take pride in helping manufacturers streamline operations by delivering turnkey automation solutions. A recent project at Speyside Cooperage offered an excellent opportunity to showcase our full scope of services—from panel design and fabrication to field installation and final commissioning. Here’s a closer look at the work we completed.
Procuring the Right Components
Every successful project begins with sourcing the right parts. For Speyside Cooperage, we procured all the necessary control and automation components, ensuring they met both performance requirements and long-term reliability standards. Careful attention to procurement not only kept the project on schedule but also ensured compatibility across systems.
Building and Wiring Panels
In our shop, we designed and assembled Main Control Panels (MCP) and Remote I/O panels. Each panel was wired, tested, and verified against design specifications before leaving our facility. By handling the build in-house, we maintained tight quality control and ensured each unit was ready for efficient installation.
Field Installation and Panel Mounting
Once on site, our team managed the installation of all panels directly onto the machinery. Precision and planning were key—each panel had to be mounted in a way that balanced accessibility for operators and maintenance staff with the rugged demands of the production floor.
Cable Tray System for Cable Management
Clean, organized cable management is essential in an industrial environment. We designed and installed a comprehensive cable tray system to route and protect all power and signal wiring. This not only improved safety and aesthetics but also simplified troubleshooting and future expansion.
Collaboration with Mechanical Contractors
Automation projects require strong teamwork. We worked closely with the mechanical contractor on site to mount and wire sensors, actuators, and other field devices. This collaboration ensured that all mechanical and electrical systems aligned seamlessly, minimizing downtime and avoiding costly rework.
Final Termination and Testing
The last stage involved the final termination of all field wiring, tying every device back into the control system. Once completed, our team ran detailed checks to confirm wiring integrity and system performance. This step was critical in ensuring a smooth startup and reliable long-term operation.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the work Opus delivered during our two major line expansions. After a previous contractor failed to meet expectations, Opus stepped in seamlessly and took ownership of the project without missing a beat. Their ability to quickly assess the situation and get things back on track was impressive. The entire process was smooth and efficient. Opus was extremely easy to work with–responsive, communicative, and committed to our timeline. Every member of their team demonstrated professionalism and deep technical knowledge, which made a complex project feel manageable and well supported. We’re grateful for their partnership and wouldn’t hesitate to work with Opus again.”

What made this project at Speyside Cooperage stand out was the breadth of services we provided. From initial procurement through the final wiring terminations, Opus Integration handled every step. Our integrated approach meant fewer handoffs, tighter coordination, and a faster path to a fully functional system.
At the end of the day, our goal was simple: to deliver a system that works reliably, safely, and efficiently while making life easier for Speyside’s operators and maintenance teams. Projects like this highlight how a strong partnership between client, contractor, and integrator can deliver lasting value.
