Greenfield Distillery Project

Overview:

Greenfield bourbon manufacturing.

At-A-Glance:

Industry:
Location: Bardstown, KY

The Client’s Challenge:

The client emphasized the need for data concentric manufacturing process. We had already demonstrated our technical knowledge with PlantPAx with our involvement with previous smaller projects as well as a track record for meeting expectations.

The Opus Solution:

This was a PlantPAx (ver 5) based application using twelve (12) Allen- Bradley 1756-L83EP processors across a campus of buildings. There twelve (12) Intellicenter MCCs with PowerFlex 755s and PowerFlex 525s and 1734 IO Platform for non-classified environments and 1719 IO Platform for areas classified as hazardous. Communication was segmented into downstream device networks that allowed for convergence with the controller- to-controller layer. Forty-two (42) Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Ethernet/IP modules with CIP Security we selected for use to allow for encrypted communication as well as the increased amount of connections unique to this device. High level switching was achieved using Cisco Catalyst core switching and routing deployed using high speed fiber in a redundant star topology. Nutanix server cluster using VMware hypervisor to provide for both redundancy and fault tolerance required by the application. Software included FactoryTalk View SE (in a redundant configuration), FactoryTalk View Historian SE, FactoryTalk AssetCentre, Redundant ThinManager Servers, two (2) Engineering Workstations and twenty Operator Workstations (FactoryTalk View SE Client). These machines were virtualized images, sourced from Rockwell Software’s PlantPAx Virtual Templates. Operation Technology network is monitored by Dragos. Historian Data is escalated to enterprise level historian for use by data scientists and manufacturing execution systems.
